Knife Held Against Woman's Neck On Rowell Avenue: JPD

During the argument on Rowell Avenue, Leon Williams grabbed the woman by her neck and pushed her against a wall, Joliet police noted.

JOLIET, IL — A 70-year-old Joliet man who is well known throughout the Joliet Police Department because of his numerous arrests over the years, Leon Williams, is back in the Will County Jail following a knife incident late Wednesday night, according to arrest reports.

Officers hauled away Williams and drove him to the Will County Adult Detention Facility where he's being charged with unlawful restraint, domestic battery and possession of a controlled substance.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to the arrest:

  • Around 11:30 p.m., officers went to an apartment in the Joshua Arms apartment building at 1315 Rowell Avenue for a domestic disturbance.
  • During an argument, Williams grabbed a woman by her neck and pushed her against a wall. Williams then held a knife to her neck and told her she was not free to leave the apartment.
  • Williams was placed into custody without incident. His knife was recovered by Joliet police, who also recovered cocaine from Williams when they searched him for weapons or drugs.
  • The victim was uninjured.

Williams has been the subject of multiple Joliet Patch crime stories in the past. He was most recently in the Will County Jail from last October until being let go in March, jail records show.
