JOLIET, IL — Joliet native Nick Palmer has picked up a huge political endorsement in his candidacy for Will County Executive in the March 17 Democratic primary: the endorsement comes from his boss, four-term County Executive Larry Walsh Sr. One of Will County's most well-known politicians, Walsh recently announced he will not seek a fifth term of office in 2020. Walsh was first elected as the Will County Executive in 2004.

“As the Executive I have witnessed Nick’s knowledge of the job inside and out, and I strongly endorse his candidacy,” Walsh said. “Nick Palmer’s ability to work constructively with both sides of the aisle, and unwavering commitment to the people of Will County is what truly sets him apart from other candidates in this race.”

Palmer has worked on Walsh's staff the past 15 years and currently serves as Walsh's chief of staff. Palmer is likely to face a tough primary battle against State Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. She, too, has taken out of nominating petitions to run for Will County Executive.

Larry Walsh, however, is not supporting Bertino-Tarrant's candidacy.

“This job is not about politics. It’s about doing what’s right for Will County and that’s why I hope you will join me in supporting Nick Palmer for County Executive," Walsh said in a press release.

He is also s graduate of Loyola University Chicago and was a former Division I cross country and track runner.

Palmer said he is grateful to have the endorsement of his long-time boss.

"Larry Walsh has dedicated his entire career to public service and, in that, has been a great mentor,” Palmer explained. “I have learned from the best about how to provide honest and open government and how to bring people together to find solutions for our community. I look forward to continuing that legacy.”
