Lewis University to Hold Commencement Ceremony May 14, 15

Graduate students will receive their diplomas May 14 and undergraduate students will receive theirs May 15.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Lewis University will graduate more than 900 students at its 98th commencement ceremonies in May while also awarding an honorary degree to John Greuling and the Will County Center for Economic Development (CED).

Greuling and the CED will be honored at the Commencement Ceremony for Graduate Students on Saturday, May 14. On Sunday, May 15, undergraduate students will receive their degrees.

Lewis University will confer degrees to 289 graduate students during Saturday’s ceremony and 685 undergraduates during Sunday’s ceremony. Presiding over these Baccalaureate ceremonies will be Brother James Gaffney, FSC, who is retiring as President of Lewis on June 30 after 28 years in office.

Hiedi France of Lockport and Martha Ann Wilkins of Chicago’s Ashburn neighborhood will be receiving doctoral degrees in Educational Leadership for Teaching and Learning. Sue E. Durkin of Downers Grove will be the first to receive a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree through a new graduate program launched in 2014 by the College of Nursing and Health Professions.

The Graduate Degree Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Fieldhouse and will be followed by the President’s Reception for Graduates and Guests. The Sunday schedule will begin with the Baccalaureate Liturgy at 9 a.m. in the Fieldhouse, followed by a continental breakfast for graduates and guests. The Undergraduate Degree Ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Jack Azman ’55, the first person to receive the Father Aquinas Award at Lewis University (then College) will help present the award to this year’s recipient, Brianna Diaz of Joliet. Tala Zubi of Tinley Park was selected to represent the Lewis graduates in presenting the Lasallian Address.
