Angry, Violent Man Shot In Leg By His Victim: Joliet Police

After being pushed into the closet in the 1600 block of Edith Drive, the victim retrieved a gun from the same closet, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL — A 27-year-old Joliet man from the White Birch Lane apartment units is now in the Will County Jail facing domestic battery charges after Joliet police say Kedrick Williams was shot in the leg while engaged in violent behavior towards another man.

The shooting happened around 10:25 a.m. on Sunday in the 1600 block of Edith Drive.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, this is what happened:

  • Officers found Williams in the residence with a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers learned that Williams was in an argument with a man. The argument escalated into a fight, at which time police said Williams shoved the victim into a closet.
  • After being pushed into the closet, the victim retrieved a handgun from the same closet. Williams then approached the victim and struck him in the face multiple times while the victim still held the handgun, according to police.
  • While Williams attacked the victim, the handgun accidentally discharged a round, striking Williams in the right leg, police said.
  • Williams was taken to Silver Cross Hospital by the Joliet Fire Department with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Officers recovered the handgun from the residence. Williams was released from the hospital and placed into custody without incident. It was also determined that Williams held an active Will County arrest warrant for a prior domestic battery.

Bail has been set at $20,000 for Williams, and he remained in custody on Tuesday.
