JOLIET, IL — It's been more than five years ago since Shane Divis gained notoriety on YouTube after filming former Joliet Catholic teacher Jeremy Hylka running bare chested at night along Woodlawn Avenue trying to hide his face after Hylka showed up at the West Jefferson Street McDonald's restaurant under the pretext of meeting an underage teenage boy for a sexual encounter.

In 2021, Divis, who founded the Save Our Siblings group, continued to make live videos showing other people around the Joliet area suspected of traveling to various businesses under the pretext of meeting up with underage juveniles for sexual encounters.

And that's how Divis' actions led the Shorewood Police Department to arrest 39-year-old Lockport resident John Resedean, who traveled to the Lover's Lane store on Route 59 in 2021. Resedean was arrested that July 15 on charges of traveling to meet a meet a minor, indecent solicitation of a child, solicitation to meet a child and grooming.

And now with Resedean's criminal case nearing a July 7th jury trial date in Courtroom 503, Divis, of all people, just spent the past four days lodged inside the Will County Jail — as a direct result of his connection with Resedean's pending charges.

As Resedean's criminal case has neared its trial date, lawyers for both sides, the prosecutors and defense, have filed various motions arguing over Divis' role in orchestrating the criminal charges. Resedean's private defense counsel consists of Dana Jakusz of downtown Joliet's Jaquays & Ellis law firm and Louis Caprio of Chicago Heights.

Subpoenas issued by the lawyers seeking Divis' presence as a witness at the Will County Courthouse went ignored and Divis was a no-show at various pretrial hearings. Finally, Will County Judge Art Smigielski, a no-nonsense judge, issued a bench warrant for Divis in April, and last Friday morning, Joliet police took Divis into custody following a traffic stop for speeding near Ridge Road and Jones Road. During the stop, the officer discovered Divis had an active Will County warrant. Divis was taken into custody without incident, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English told Patch.

Divis slept overnight in Will County's jail on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, regaining his freedom on Monday after his lawyer, Joel Murphy of downtown Joliet, convinced Judge Smigielski to grant a $10,000 personal recognizance bond for his client.

In 2021, Joliet Patch reported that Divis and his Save Our Siblings helped the Shorewood Police Department launch the criminal investigation that led to charges against Resedean.

As for the meet-up involving Resedean at the Lovers Lane on Route 59, Shorewood's Police Department David Save Our Siblings "approached us after this video went up (on YouTube), before we had even been made aware that this occurred. The investigation was initiated based on the content of the YouTube video." It marked the first time Shorewood police had made an arrest in connection with the help of the Save Our Siblings organization.

"That organization, Save Our Siblings, they arranged a meeting, and he showed up, and the incident was recorded by them, and eventually it was given to us," deputy police chief Jason Barten told Patch five years ago.

The video posted on YouTube was called "Church-Goer Loses Everything." Divis began his video began by announcing, "We've got another one coming right now, supposed to be meeting me at 5:30 p.m. at the Lovers Lane in Shorewood. His name is John Resedean, out of Lockport, 39 years old, coming to meet a 16-year-old girl."

This past January, in preparation for Resedean's trial, the Will County State's Attorney's Office filed court documents informing Judge Smigielski that "Witness Shane Divis created a fake dating profile of a female 16 year old on a dating site called Bumble. After connecting and conversing with the defendant through several messages the defendant arranged to meet this purported 16 year old girl at Lovers Lane in Shorewood, Illinois. Instead of meeting the female, he was then met by Shane Divis and his group 'Save Our Siblings' and confronted about the defendant's desire to meet up with the underage female. The charges in this matter stem from this incident. There was a previous hearing on the defendant's motion to dismiss based on an alleged Brady discovery violation, which after a hearing, the court denied."

Will County prosecutor Sarah Romero's filing goes on to explain, "the defense has filed a motion in limine to bar all of the conversations between the defendant and Shane Divis. The defense is alleging a discovery violation and a violation of the Eavesdropping Statute by Shane Divis ... In this matter, the defendant consented to the recording outside of Lover's Lane when he was asked by Shane Divis if he wanted to talk to him and the defendant said yes. The defendant called his father, did the 'interview' out in the open in the public in front of others which shows that there was no expectation of privacy and his consent to the recording. Furthermore, Shane Divis advised the defendant that the 'interview' was being recorded and the defendant remained at the location and participated in the conversation."

As for Divis, he has had his own run-ins with Will County law enforcement in recent years.

The Will County State's Attorney's charged Divis with the crime of battery for three consecutive years, in 2023, 2024 and 2025, all three cases listed the same man as the victim. Divis was put in the Will County Jail following the 2023 arrest. However, all three battery charges against Divis were dropped before the cases ever went to trial, court files show.

In 2022, Joliet Patch reported that the five criminal charges against Jeremy Hylka were: traveling to meet a child, indecent solicitation of a child, grooming, another charge of indecent solicitation of a child and a charge of solicitation to meet a child. (Mugshot via Joliet police )
