Man With PCP, Loaded Gun Lays On Downtown Street: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — A 44-year-old Joliet man from the far east side's Bogdan Lane is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Ernest Morgan was laying in the middle of a downtown street on Sunday night. Joliet police say they found PCP in Morgan's pants plus a loaded gun.

As a result of the incident, Morgan was booked into the jail on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a peace officer.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the events leading to Morgan's capture happened at 7:47 p.m.

According to English:

  • Officers on downtown patrol in the 100 block of North Joliet Street saw a man laying in the middle of the street, while another male ran from the area. Officers stopped the man who was running and learned that the two men were in an altercation, and the man on the ground was possibly armed with a handgun.
  • Morgan got up from the ground and began walking south on Joliet Street. Officers gave commands for him to stop, but Morgan ignored them and refused to show his hands.
  • Officers caught up Morgan, and he was placed into custody following a brief struggle. The officers recovered a loaded handgun and PCP from his pants.
  • While being processed at Joliet's police station, Morgan became unresponsive, and he was taken to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department.
  • Morgan was released from the hospital a short time later, and he was transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he remained on Monday.
