Mars Bringing Hundreds of Jobs to Joliet
The candy company is building a 1.4 million sq. ft. distribution center.

Mars, the candy company known for Snickers and Twix, will be bringing hundreds of jobs to the Joliet area when it opens a new distribution center.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the company plans to open a 1.4 million sq. ft. distribution center at the CenterPoint Intermodel Center in Joliet.

Between 400 and 500 permanent jobs will be created, as well as 200 construction jobs to build the center. Between 200 and 300 seasonal jobs will also be created.
Patch had previously reported that the Joliet City Council approved a five-year, 50 percent property tax reduction to an unknown company. Mars is believed to be that company, according to Tribune sources. Mars will receive a $208,000 property tax reduction each year, totaling just over $1 million by the end of the five-year deal.

“What they (Mars) presented was a win-win for our residents,” Joliet Councilman Jim McFarland told the Tribune. “I’m glad they’re coming to Joliet, and I welcome them.”
McFarland also said Mars would pay above minimum wage.
It is unknown when the distribution center will open.
