Metropolitan Youth Symphony 60th Anniversary Reunion Concert

The Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) will perform its 60th Anniversary Concert on Sunday afternoon March 15, 2020 at 4:00 in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Joliet Junior College (1215 Houbolt Rd, Building K, Joliet). Admission is ten dollars cash at the door.

The program will include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Saint-Saens’ Violin concerto No. 3 and selections from Handel’s Water Music.

To commemorate the special milestone, MYSO will feature alumna Casey McGrath in the first movement of Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto in B minor. After serving as MYSO’s concertmaster in her youth, Casey earned degrees from Butler University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, ultimately receiving the degree Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has served as concertmaster for the Fox Valley Orchestra and has played in numerous other orchestras throughout the area. A committed educator, Dr. McGrath has taught at Joliet Junior College, Lewis University, the University of St. Francis, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the OPUS Chamber Music Camp.

For this concert Maestro Lawrence Sisk has invited MYSO alumni to join current orchestra players to perform selections from Handel’s Water Music. The concert will conclude with a dessert reception and raffle prizes.

Founded in 1959 the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra has resided in Will County since 1991. Membership in MYSO consists of junior high and high school students from Joliet and 21 surrounding communities as well as students from Lewis University and Joliet Junior College.
