Minor Injuries in Crash Involving Metra Train from Joliet

A Rock Island Line train arriving at the downtown LaSalle Street station injured 14 people, according to a published report.

Fourteen Metra passangers traveling on the Rock Island line from Joliet were injured in an accident this morning that occurred as the train entered a downtown station, reports said.

The train struck a "bumping post" at the end of the LaSalle Street station at about 8:45 a.m., Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said, according to an Associated Press article.

Of the 14 people with injuries, six were taken to area hospitals for treatment, Gillis said. A less-serious accident that did not result in injuries occurred at the same station at 6:15 a.m., the article said.

The accidents are being attributed to the weather, and Gillis said all trains have been instructed to come into downtown stations at "walking speed," the story said.
