Mississippi Man Causes Damage To Joliet's Gateway Center: JPD

Joliet police were called back to the Joliet Gateway Center at noon on Wednesday after the suspect they say damaged the window returned.

JOLIET, IL — A 56-year-old man all the way from Abbeville, Mississippi was arrested Wednesday afternoon in downtown Joliet at the Gateway Center following issues of property damage. Joliet police say they put Darryl Jones in handcuffs and charged him with criminal property damage.

He was later released on an I-bond.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English:

  • Back on Tuesday, around 8:20 a.m., officers responded to the Joliet Gateway Center at 90 E. Jefferson St. for damaged property. Officers learned that the man had kicked and broken an elevator window. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
  • Officers checked the area and did not locate their culprit.
  • Then at noon on Wednesday, their prime suspect returned to the scene of the crime.
  • The suspect who damaged the window was seen back on the premises. Officers arrived and identified the suspect as Jones, and he was placed into custody without incident.
  • The motive for causing the damage is unknown at this time.
