More Joliet Coronavirus Deaths At Villa Franciscan, Sunny Hill

JOLIET, IL — At least two more residents at Joliet's Presence Villa Franciscan nursing home have died from the new coronavirus, bringing the care facility's number of deaths to eight since the outbreak began. The Illinois Department of Public Health on Sunday reported eight coronavirus deaths and 41 residents at Villa Franciscan, 210 Springfield Ave., diagnosed with the illness.

One week ago, Villa Franciscan reported six deaths and 40 coronavirus.

"Due to Villa Franciscan’s location in a COVID-19 hot zone, out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of our staff and residents, we proactively conducted COVID-19 testing," Molly Gaus, senior director of marketing at Ascension Living, wrote Joliet Patch last week.

Gaus also informed Patch, "Our hearts break whenever we lose a resident. Our team is doing a heroic job in providing care and adapting to these unprecedented times as we provide care to all who have underlying medical conditions that have brought them to our community. We will continue to do all we can to protect and care for every resident."

Also, the number of coronavirus cases at the Symphony of Joliet at 306 N. Larkin Ave. has reached 93. The state's data now shows 26 coronavirus deaths at Symphony of Joliet.

A week ago, news outlets were reporting there were 26 coronavirus deaths at Symphony and 81 total cases, however, the state's data was only showing 21 deaths at the time.

PARC of Joliet, 222 N. Hammes Ave., has reported 10 more coronavirus cases at its Joliet nursing care facility, but no additional deaths during the past week. On Sunday, the state reported that PARC of Joliet now has 28 cases and four deaths of residents who had the illness.

Sunny Hill Nursing Home becomes at least the fourth Joliet nursing home with multiple coronavirus deaths.

According to Sunday's state health data, Sunny Hill has reported 17 coronavirus cases and two deaths. A week ago, Sunny Hill reported no deaths and only two cases.

Joliet Terrace, 2230 McDonough St., is also a new addition to the state's coronavirus list for nursing homes. Joliet Terrace reported its first two coronavirus cases this week.

The state data also dropped the number of coronavirus cases reported at Rock Run Place, 3320 Executive Drive in Joliet.

A week ago, the state reported five cases at Rock Run Place. On Sunday, the total number of cases was lowered to four.
