Murder On Raynor Ave. Solved 3 Years Later: Joliet Chief

JOLIET, IL — Three years after Joliet resident Tre Stanley lost his life to gun violence in the 400 block of South Raynor Avenue, Joliet police officials announced on Friday that Stanley's killer was captured. Christopher Diego Garcia, now 20 years old, has been charged in the homicide.

“My condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Stanley. The tireless efforts, meticulous investigation, and collaboration displayed by our team have paid off, hopefully bringing closure to the victim's family and ensuring that the perpetrator will be held accountable for their actions," Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans said in Friday's press release.

Joliet Patch previously reported that on Sept. 28, 2020, Stanley, 28, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted from AMITA Health to Loyola Medical Center after being shot in the head around 7 p.m. in the 400 block of South Raynor Avenue.

The victim was inside a vehicle parked in a residential driveway and someone shot up the vehicle, wounding the victim, Joliet police said at the time.

His obituary notes that Stanley died six days later, on Oct. 3, 2020, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. Stanley was a 2011 Joliet Central High School graduate.

About a week ago, on May 25, Joliet police detectives got a warrant for the arrest of Garcia on three counts of first-degree murder. A Will County judge set a bond of $2.5 million.

On Thursday, Garcia was taken away in handcuffs by members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force at his place in the 600 block of Vine Street, on Joliet's near west side.

"This arrest serves yet another reminder of the professionalism and expertise of our members, and it reinforces our commitment to serving and protecting our community," Chief Evans marked on Friday. "Thank you to the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force for their vital assistance in this case.”

Will County Jail logs listed Garcia's address as being the 2100 block of Tamarack Drive. Garcia was in the Will County Jail back in 2021 from June 16, 2021, until Sept. 7, 2021 and again from Sept. 26, 2021 until March 17, 2022.

In June 2021, Joliet Patch published a story on Garcia, then 18 years old, headlined, Bicentennial Park Gun Arrest Made By Joliet Police The criminal complaint stated that on June 16, 2021, Garcia, who lives in the unit block of North Center Street, "knowingly possessed concealed on or about his person a pistol, a Glock .380 semi-automatic handgun, in a public park ... Bicentennial Park."
