Joliet's Murderer Registry Includes 18

JOLIET, IL — One of the biggest news stories last week concerned the unexpected prison release of Yorkville mass murderer Carl Reimann, now 77. He killed five people at the Pine Village Steakhouse during a robbery gone awry in 1972. These days, the state maintains the Illinois State Police Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Registry to keep people better informed about certain violent men and women who are back in society, convicts who are mandated to keep law enforcement aware of their addresses on a regular basis.

Patch reported over the weekend that Reimann is currently residing in the 700 block of 7th Avenue in LaGrange.

Closer to home, the state's murder and violent offender registry currently lists 80 people in Joliet as being on the registry. However, at least 32 of them are currently incarcerated at the Illinois Department of Corrections, convicted killers such as Joshua Miner and Adam Landerman, who are serving life sentences for the notorious 2013 Nightmare on Hickory Street slayings.

Of the remaining 48, Joliet Patch found 18 living in Joliet who are classified on the registry as "murderer." They are no longer imprisoned for their crimes.

Some people classified as "murderers" may have been convicted of a lesser crime such as attempted murder, Patch determined. That's the case of Rudy Aviles, whose photo appears at the top of this article. A 2007 Chicago Tribune story reported the 77-year-old Frankfort man was charged with attempted first-degree murder in the non-fatal stabbing of his wife inside their house.

At any rate, the following 18 people are listed as residing in Joliet and being on the "murderer registry." Four of them are currently classified as being "non-compliant" with the murder registry.

JOHN ARIAS, 47, 400 block of Elwood Avenue. The Illinois State Police murderer registry notes that Arias was 25 and his victim was 24. His crime occurred in Will County.

JERMAINE AMMONS, 44, 1200 block of Luther Avenue. Ammons was 17 and his victim was 64. His crime occurred in Will County.

RUDY AVILES, 87, homeless, listed by Illinois State Police as non-compliant with the murderer registry. Aviles was 78 and his victim was 68. His crime occurred in Will County.

GERALD BAUMANN, 48, 500 block of South Ottawa Street. Baumann was 18 and his victim was 19. His crime occurred in Cook County.

MANUEL BOBE, 47, 1100 block of Theodore Street. Bobe was 27 and his victim was 16. His crime occurred in Cook County.

NORMAN CAMPBELL, 47, 600 block of North Broadway Street. Campbell was 24 and his victim was 28. His crime occurred in Will County.

RAY CHAVEZ, 40, 3900 block of Mohican Court. Chavez was 16 and his victim was 23. His crime occurred in Cook County.

KENNETH R. COLE, 63, 600 block of North Broadway. Cole was 44 and his victim was 27. His crime occurred in Will County.

CHRISTOPHER DENT, 56, 300 block of Western Avenue. Dent was 28 and his victim was 18. His crime occurred in Cook County.

MELVIN DRAPER, 56, 800 block of Richmond Street. Draper was 31 and his victim was 30. His crime occurred in Cook County.

JERMAINE GILDON, 40, 8500 block of Foxborough Way. Gildon was 19 and his victim was 30. His crime occurred in Will County.

CARLOUNDUS HARPER, 43, shows an address at the Will County Jail. The murder registry lists Harper as non-compliant. Harper was 30 and his victim was 23. His crime occurred in Macon County.

DONTALYON JIMERSON, 59, 200 block of 3rd Avenue. Jimerson was 21 and his victim was 84. His crime occurred in Will County.

KARLA JONES, 59, 800 block of Mills Road. Jones was 20 and her victim was 89. Her crime occurred in Will County.

CHRISTOPHER KNIGHT, 55, currently in the Will County Jail. The murder registry lists Knight as being a non-compliant offender. Knight was 26 and his victim was 30. His crime occurred in Will County.

CHRISTOPHER MCCALLUM, 38, 200 block of Pleasant Street. McCallum was 17 and his victim was 18. His crime occurred in Will County.

BARBARA PETERS, 59, 2000 block of McDonough Street. Peters was 31 and her victim was 2. Her crime occurred in Cook County.

EDWARD VASQUEZ, 46, address listed as 900 block of Prescott Drive. The murder registry lists Vasquez as being a non-compliant offender. Vasquez was 20 and his victim was under 18, the registry states. His crime occurred in Cook County.
