New Lenox Teen Has 2018 Mustang Stolen At Pilcher Park
Joliet police say the car thief, Louis McCain, was eventually captured near Henderson Avenue and Jackson Street.

JOLIET, IL - A 25-year-old Joliet resident, Louis McCain, finds himself locked up on felony charges in the Will County Adult Detention Facility after Joliet police say he stole a new sports car at Pilcher Park Nature Center early Monday evening. McCain, of the 400 block of Grant Avenue, faces a felony vehicle theft charge and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. On Monday, a New Lenox teenager drove over to Pilcher Park to take photos of his new 2018 Mustang, which is actually owned by the 17-year-old's father. Around 6 p.m., while the New Lenox teen was snapping photos, police say, McCain came out of nowhere and jumped inside the Mustang and drove off. Joliet police said the engine was still running at the time of the theft.
Next, McCain drove out of Pilcher Park in the stolen sports car and headed west along Route 6, according to police. Meantime, Joliet police officers were notified of the stolen Mustang and patrol officers spotted the car near Route 6 and Draper Avenue. They tried to stop McCain but he ignored them and kept on driving, according to Deputy Chief of Police Ed Gregory. However, once McCain got to the intersection of Jackson Street and Henderson Avenue, he bailed from the Mustang and tried to run away. But he didn't get that far.
The Joliet police officers captured McCain and put him in handcuffs. Gregory said the New Lenox victim was a complete stranger to McCain, who apparently was walking around Pilcher Park alone on Monday. Monday's crime is a reminder to everybody not to leave your vehicle running while it's unattended, Gregory said.
