No License, No Insurance, Intoxicated Joliet Man Runs From Ruby: JPD

Officers saw an open container of alcohol in the damaged car of 30-year-old Joliet felony DUI defendant, Wilmer Amador, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A 30-year-old Joliet man from the 600 block of Vine Street tried running away from last Friday night's wreck on Ruby Street near Hickory Street, but officers caught him and now Wilmer Amador remains in the Will County Jail facing several felony DUI charges, Joliet police announced.

Amador remains in detention, unable to make his $5,000 bail. Joliet police charged him with two counts of aggravated DUI, plus DUI and DUI – BAC over .08.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English outlined the events leading to the Vine Street resident's arrest by the patrol officers:

  • Around 11:15 p.m., officers learned of a wreck at Ruby and Hickory. Amador's Honda Pilot was westbound on Ruby Street approaching Hickory Street and Amador struck the rear of a parked Ford Focus. A 29-year-old man was in the parked car.
  • The force of Amador's crash caused the 29-year-old man in the Ford Focus to strike the rear of an unoccupied parked Chevrolet Impala.
  • As for Amador, he tried to run away from the wreck, but Joliet police got to the scene and caught him. No injuries were reported in the crash.
  • Amador exhibited signs of alcohol impairment and he had an open container of alcohol his Honda Pilot. Amador did the field sobriety tests and was arrested.
  • Amador had no driver’s license or vehicle insurance. Amador was also cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and having no valid driver’s license.
