NuMark Credit Union Donates $750 to Women Employed

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated each year on March 8th. It is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world while simultaneously promoting unity and gender equality.

NuMark Credit Union chose this day to help support Women Employed. This organization relentlessly pursues equity for women in the workforce by effecting policy change, expanding access to educational opportunities, and advocating for fair and inclusive workplaces to make the world a better place for us all. The credit union matched staff donations and together have raised $750 for Women Employed.

Chief Operations Officer at NuMark Credit Union and member of the NuMark Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee, Jessica Mellen was happy to explain why Women Employed was the chosen organization this year. “I am thrilled that the DEI team at NuMark Credit Union chose to support Women Employed on International Women’s Day! In the financial industry, credit unions are known for advancing careers of women, with 51% of credit union CEOs being women compared to 3% at banks (CUNA). There is still work to be done, which is why we were drawn to Women Employed’s commitment to challenging the systemic barriers that limit opportunities for women in pursuit of equity for ALL women.”

The 2022 campaign theme for International Women’s Day focused on calling attention to biases against women and helping to forge an inclusive world. Showing solidarity is as easy as using the hashtag #BreakTheBias on social media. IWD is a one-day celebration of the accomplishments of women, but the campaign runs all year long. International Women's Day has occurred for over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911. Today, IWD is celebrated all over the world.
