Obituary: Arthur J. Gahan

Art was always quick to find the humor in a situation.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Arthur J. Gahan

Age 80, of Joliet, Illinois, passed peacefully, Sunday morning, September 21, 2025, at the Lightways Hospice Home.

Art was born on June 30, 1945, to the late Jeanne (Kummerer) and Arthur J. Gahan in Chicago, IL, where he was raised and educated.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Gahan; two daughters, Emily (Brian) King and Susan Gahan; son, Brian Patrick Gahan; step-son, Chris Berglund; grandson, Jace King and step-granddaughters, Senna and Sela Berglund. Also surviving are his sister, Mary Beth; brothers, Greg, Dave and Kevin; his aunt, Margaret Halliday and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Art loved to run marathons. He ran the Chicago, Boston and LA marathons as well as numerous small walks and runs. He had an avid interest in history and was very knowledgeable in the subject.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends telling jokes and stories. Art was always quick to find the humor in a situation.

He worked for many years as a manager for several car dealerships in the area. In his retirement years, he enjoyed driving a school bus and was known as "Mr. Art".

Art lived a full life and was loved by family and friends.

As it was Art's request, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of his life is being planned for his family at a later date.
