A lifelong Joliet resident passes away at the age of 89.

Betty J. Liess

Betty J. Liess, (nee Harrison), age 89, of Joliet, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at home. Faithfully by her side was her loving husband of 70 years, Richard K. Liess.

Born March 9, 1932 in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late Russell C. and Victoria (Carlson) Harrison, and was a graduate of Joliet Township High School, Class of 1949. Betty worked as a switchboard operator for Illinois Bell Telephone Company for many years.

Betty was both an excellent cook and seamstress. She prepared holiday meals and sewed clothes and keepsakes for her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren alike.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Richard K. “Dick” Liess, who she married January 13, 1951; three devoted daughters, Jacquelyn (Craig) Spiers of Joliet, Jill Lynn (Steve) Korelc of Crest Hill, and Jody Renee (Roger) Stoneberg of Batavia; her adoring grandchildren, Richard Spiers, Jaime Kapellas, Ryan (Jessica) Stoneberg, Jason (Rebekah) Stoneberg, Lisa Stoneberg, and Jonathan (Annie) Korelc; and her precious great-grandchildren, Kameron and Keaton Kapellas, Liam and Jacob Stoneberg, and Madeleine, Ellie, Reid and Grayson Stoneberg. Betty is also survived by a sister, Patricia Harrison of Glen Ellyn; a sister-in-law, Sally Palmer of Joliet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to limitations on the number of persons in attendance, services for Betty Liess will be for the immediate family only on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, (at Essington Road), Joliet. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Entombment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Lightways Hospice, the former Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 would be appreciated.
