Obituary: Fannie “Fran” “Sis” Campbell, 98, Moved To Joliet In 1953

Fannie was an avid reader and enjoyed word search puzzles.

JOLIET, IL — Born October 22, 1924 in Thebes, IL, she was the oldest daughter of 12 children. Fannie moved to Joliet in 1953, and passed away on May 28, 2023 at age 98.

Fannie was an avid reader and enjoyed word search puzzles. She was very creative and loved to sew, crotchet, quilt, cook, and bake. All who tasted her potica looked forward to the occasions when she would make it. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

She is survived by her children Ronald (Joann) Smothers, Patricia Smothers, and Linda (late Ronald) McKee; brothers Marshall and Sam Burns; and sisters Jerre Dover and Carita Miller; her grandchildren Rhonda (Mike) Callans, Jodi Denton, Susan (Andy) Sarkisian, Laurie (Andrew) Bullinger, Ronald (Alisha) McKee, Kimberly Stewart, and Gregory (Angie) Stewart; her great-grandchildren Travis (Allison) Denton, Alyssa (Bailey) Kelly & Paige Callans, Shawn Hash, Beau (Emalee) & Cody Stewart, Lauren Masters, Devin & Kayla Tanzini, Alexia, Alayna & Addison McKee, Adam Perolio, and Meadow & Summer Sarkisian; and her great-great-grandchildren Georgia Denton, Journey & Holden Hash, Jaiden, Cade, Drew & Annabelle Masters, Cole Branton, and Kane Pifer. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family survive and have also preceded.

Preceded in death by her husband Eugene; her parents Houston & Wanda Burns; brothers Houston Burns Jr., Bill, Buster, Roy and Jimmie Burns; sisters Virginia McIntrye and Doris Bullock; grandsons Thomas Smothers and William (Yvonne) Stewart, great-granddaughter Kelly (Shane) Pifer, and one great-grandson at birth.

As per her wishes, Cremation Rites were performed through the Neptune Society, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. There will be no services, per her wishes.

Fannie’s family would like to thank the staff of Salem Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lightways Hospice, and everyone that has supported and reached out to us during this difficult time.
