Janet Jean Komarek passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, in Joliet, Illinois, at the age of 78. Janet was born on July 28, 1946, to the late Egiedio and Lillian (nee Polivka) Haiz. Born and raised in Berwyn, IL, she was a proud graduate of Morton West High School. Janet enjoyed playing basketball during her school years, embracing both the camaraderie and competition.
Throughout her life, she carried immense pride in her Italian heritage, expressing it most lovingly through her passion for cooking. She was known for her impressive collection of recipes and her ability to bring people together around a good meal.

Janet shared a life of adventure and travel with her beloved husband, Robert. One of their great joys was spending time outdoors, beginning with family camping trips and later relaxing at their cherished lake house on Lake Shannon. Janet loved being near the water—whether fishing, enjoying peaceful moments by the shore, or taking a ride on her pontoon boat, the lake became one of her favorite and most peaceful places.
Janet's home was often filled with the music of Elvis Presley, one of her lifelong favorites. Whether it was through shared meals, lakeside retreats, or dancing to her favorite tunes, Janet's legacy is a tapestry of love, laughter, and a zest for life that will not be forgotten.
Janet is survived by her son, Michael (Elizabeth) Komarek; her adored granddaughter, Samantha Komarek; her twin sister, Judy (the late Carl) Volanti; and her sister, Linda (the late Ronald) Lamberg. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews, who will forever remember her kindness and generous heart.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles Komarek; and her parents.
Visitation for Janet Jean Komarek will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
