Obituary: JoAnne M. Lantka

A lifelong resident of Joliet and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church passes away at age 79.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

JoAnne M. Lantka

JoAnne M. (nee Dufour) Lantka, age 79, a lifelong resident of Joliet, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Silver Cross Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

Born September 26, 1944, in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen (Mahkovec) Dufour. She married the love of her life, Lawrence Lantka, and they enjoyed 41 years of marriage until his passing in 2011.

JoAnne was formerly employed by Makovic Insurance Agency for two years, GAF (Ruberoid) for 10 years, and then served as Manager for the Area Currency Exchange for 29 years. She was a lifelong member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Slovenian Women's Union. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and caring for her grandchildren.

Surviving by her daughters, Janice L. Lantka of Joliet, and Janette M. (Scott) Sniegowski of Homer Glen; four grandchildren, Samantha (Phil Schafer) Lantka, Brenden Lantka, Allison Sniegowski and Taylor Sniegowski; one great-granddaughter, Serenity Schafer; one brother, Kenneth (Virgie) Dufour, formerly of New Lenox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for JoAnne Lantka will be Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and interment in St. Joseph Cemetery will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) would be appreciated.
