John Joseph Staunton, a devoted family man and talented handyman known fondly as “Mr. Sidejob,” passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, IL. He was 68 years old.

John was born on November 22, 1956, son of the late William and Kathleen Staunton. Born and raised in Chicago, he attended Steinmetz High School.
With a natural gift for fixing things and a heart full of love for those around him, John became known not just for his skills, but for his dedication to the people he held dear. Although he was a Chicago native, he was a diehard Packers fan and took great joy in the banter he held with his nephew, Stevie, who was the Chicago Bears fan.

Throughout his life, John found joy in the simple pleasures. He was happiest with a deck of cards in hand, surrounded by family, laughter, and the warmth of shared memories.
John is survived by his son, Brian (Jennifer) Staunton; daughter, Jennifer Staunton; and his siblings, James (Jeanne) Staunton and Peggy (Steve) Bourque. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He is preceded by his loving wife, Patricia Staunton; his parents; and siblings, Patricia Reeder, William Staunton, Robert Staunton, and Mary Kay Carco.
Funeral Services will be held privately by the family and inurnment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
