Obituary: John S. Warta, Sr.

He was a proud United States Army veteran, a loving father, and a proud Papa to his grandchildren.

John S. Warta, Sr.

John S. Warta, Sr., age 86 of Joliet, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, July 17, 2023, at Lightways Hospice Home. John was born on February 26, 1937, in Chicago to the late Emil and Antionette Warta. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. On October 3, 1959, he married Carolann Swiercz, and the two celebrated 55 years of marriage before her passing in 2015. John was a friend to everyone he had the pleasure of meeting, and nothing made him happier than being kept up to date with all his children’s and grandchildren’s daily lives. He was a loving father and proud Papa to his grandchildren.

John is survived by his children, John S. Jr. (Laura) Warta, David (Janet) Warta, Cindy Warta and Mark Warta; his grandchildren, Jeff Warta, Dana Fisher, Lisa (Max) Gershman, David, Eric, and Justin Warta, April (Justin) Quatrano, Kevin (Whitney) Marinellie, Matthew Warta; his great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Jeffrey, Madison, Carson, Gianna, Jordyn, Kanen, and Jade; and his beloved canine companion, Minnie.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolann (Swiercz) Warta; his parents; and his brothers, Emil and Leonard Warta.

Memorials in John’s name to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) would be appreciated.

Funeral services for John S. Warta, Sr. will be Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd., Joliet, with visitation starting at 3:00 p.m. and concluding with services at 8:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to meet on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home to process to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, where John will be laid to rest next to his late wife with full military honors conducted by the United States Army at 10:00 a.m.
