Lorraine M. Lorenz, passed away peacefully, at the age of 89, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Symphony of Palos Park. Lorraine was born on May 13, 1934, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (nee Kerr) Meyer. Born and raised in Joliet, Lorraine was a graduate of Joliet Township High School and was employed at Silver Cross Hospital for 27 dedicated years as a labor and delivery unit clerk.

Lorraine loved spending time with her family and friends and making special birthday meals for her family. She was passionate about making afghans, counted-cross stitch pictures, and Christmas ornaments. She was the founder of the 1952 JTHS Pinochle Women’s Club that enjoyed monthly gatherings for over 65 years. Lorraine also enjoyed square, line and ballroom dancing.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Gregory (Paula) Lorenz, Scott (Pamela) Lorenz, and Susan (James) Kaynish; son-in-law, Henry McGuire, Jr.; grandchildren, Susan (Dan) Metzger, Henry McGuire, III, Stephen (Callie) Kaynish, Elizabeth Lorenz, Catherine (Jared) Moxness, and Nicholas Lorenz; and seven great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly McGuire; her parents; and one sister, Marilyn Holton Parini.

A Memorial Gathering for Lorraine M. Lorenz will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of funeral service at 12:00 noon. Inurnment will be privately at a later date at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet. As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Gentiva Hospice would be appreciated.
