Marianne C. Crater, (nee Bertino), age 82, a lifelong Joliet area resident, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Silver Cross Hospital.

Born March 31, 1939 in Joliet, to Jenny (nee Vernezze) and Peter Bertino, she attended Sacred Heart Grade School and was a graduate of St. Francis Academy with the Class of 1957.

Marianne retired from St. Joseph School where she was a teacher's aide, and also enjoyed teaching religious education at St. Joseph Church and St. Mary Nativity parish. She was also employed at the Joliet Herald News for several years and by Shopper Publications for 25 years as a supervisor and distributor.

Marianne is the loving mother of Renee (Nick) Vulgaris, Jeff (Fran) Crater, Michelle (Andy) Arnston and Jayme (Shawn) Monroe; proud grandmother of George Nicholas Vulgaris, Katie (Ryan) Glaze, Marisa (Kyle) Henning, Tyler (Renee) Crater, Alexandria "Allie" Arnston, Lindsey Arnston, Colt "C.J." (Katelin) Monroe and Ashlee (Jason) Martinez; dear great-grandmother of Revan and Rowen Monroe and a third great-grandchild due in January; fond sister of Ray (the late Delores) Bertino; and sister-in-law of Ruth Bertino. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James F. Crater (March 22, 2019); her parents; siblings, Edith (Robert) Irwin, George (Lee) Bertino, Robert M. (Ann) Bertino, Babe Bertino, in infancy, Betty (Laverne) Kren, Tom (Bev) Bertino, Joe (Gerri) Bertino; and Larry Bertino.

Visitation for Marianne Crater will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to the Church of St. Anthony, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Face masks will be required for all in attendance at the funeral home, church, and cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County Activity Fund would be appreciated.
