Obituary: Raymond Albert Pondell, Jr.

Ray, who enjoyed a long career as a Live Sound Engineer, passed away at age 71.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Raymond Albert Pondell, Jr.

Raymond Albert Pondell, Jr. passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, at his home in Joliet. Ray was born on November 24, 1952 in Chicago, IL to Raymond Albert and Mildred (nee Kulsky) Pondell. He was a graduate of Kelly High School and received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College. He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church in Joliet.

Ray enjoyed a long career as a Live Sound Engineer. He was able to enjoy a long career taking in the festive nightlife while working concerts, venues, theaters and nightclubs throughout the city, before retiring in 2017. When Ray wasn't making sure that everyone could enjoy the crisp sound of live music, he enjoyed the sound of nature while bow hunting or would head to the shooting range for target practice.

Ray is survived by his two sisters; Sharon (David) Andersen and Millie (Robert) Christopher; his nieces and nephews, Brett Andersen, Corinne (Spencer) Holt, Damien (Supriya) Christopher, Sarah Christopher, Michael (Elizabeth) Christopher, Samantha (Steve) Kang; and his great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by his beloved wife of 33 years, Debra Lucille (Stapleton) Pondell (2017); and his parents.

Celebration of life for Raymond Albert Pondell, Jr. will be planned at a later date.
