Obituary: Shawn M. Conner

Lego Specialist and Nascar fan, Shawn Conner passes away at age 49.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Shawn Michael Conner

Shawn Michael Conner, age 49, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, with family by his side at Lightways Hospice Home Joliet. Prior to God calling him home, Shawn received medical care for pancreatic cancer at Loyola Medical Center, University of Chicago Hospital, RML Hospital and Lightways Hospice Home. Shawn did not want to leave his family and many friends but, as Shawn often said, “when the Guy up there calls me home, I’ll be ready.”

Born January 17, 1974, in Joliet, he was the son of Thomas and Linda Sue Conner. He was raised in Channahon, IL. He graduated Joliet Central High School and attended Joliet Junior College. Shawn was a 25-year employee of Ecolab Joliet and a Machinist, Local # 124.

Shawn was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Sue (Miller) Conner (1998), father, Thomas Conner (2023), sister, Susie Miller, grandparents, John & Norma Conner, Elma & Norma Miller, uncle,

Louie Miller, aunts Phyllis (George) Fuchs and Diane (Charles) Fuchs.

Survived by his brother, Kevin (Marcie) Conner and beloved nieces Emily and Elizabeth Conner.

Also survived by uncles, Daniel (Joyce) Conner, Patrick (Diane) Conner, aunts Lydia (Dick) Koehl, Kathy (Tom ) Maish, Nancy (Dale) Morrison, Monica (Dan) Testa, and numerous cousins.

Shawn will be remembered for his kind heart and love for animals. In passing, Shawn was reunited with his faithful companion, “Bear –the best dog a man could love”. He was a diehard Nascar fan and car enthusiast, die cast car collector and Lego specialist.

Most of all, Shawn was a friend to many and will be so missed. His loyalty and personality made it near impossible to become upset with Shawn. To know Shawn was to truly love Shawn. His family grew to include his coworkers at Ecolab and members of Northern Mustang Corral. Shawn was most proud of his 2006 GT Ford Mustang. Shawn had also volunteered for 6 years at Wilmington E.S.D.A.

Visitation for Shawn M. Conner will be held at Fred C Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road Joliet, IL 60431 on Saturday, August 19, 2023, 9:00 a.m. until noon. Prayer service will follow. Cremation rites will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lightways Hospice at 250 Water Stone Circle Joliet, IL 60431 or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
