Obituary: William “Bill” Holsey, 79, Served 2 Vietnam War Tours

WEST VIRGINIA — William “Bill” Larry Holsey, born on March 1, 1944, in Glendale, WV, has peacefully passed on August 4, 2023, in Moundsville, WV, at the age of 79. While he may no longer be physically present, his spirit continues to inspire strength and uplift those who were lucky enough to know him.

He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. He served two tours during the Vietnam War. His career included International Harvester, DuPage County, IL, and he retired as a Will County School bus driver for Plainfield, Illinois.

Though he resided mostly in Illinois, William had an immense love for the Wild and Wonderful state of West Virginia. He shared stories of his childhood when visiting there. Being outdoors held a special place in his heart, and he appreciated all of nature. He enjoyed the simple things in life including family, gardening, cooking, yard work, new projects or repairs, traveling, and great food.

William will be deeply missed by his surviving loved ones, including his spouse, Geraldine "Geri" Holsey, his brother Dallas (Donna) Lee Holsey, and his sister Sandra Kay Maidens. His memory will also live on through his children: Mirinda (Dorohn) Armstead of Plainfield, Illinois; Billy Holsey (Bryan Mundy) of Naples, Florida; Joseph Arlon Holsey of Adams Run, South Carolina; Jeremy Holsey of Fort Myers, FL; Kellie (Donald) Doubek; George (Katee) Riley. The impact he made on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nichole, Jacqueline, Marina, Austin, Joseph Gage, Hunter, Kirstin Rene, Makenzie, Taylor, Landon, Kyah, Parker, Archer, Nora, Briar, Blake, will forever be treasured.

William is now reunited with his parents, Arlon and Hattie Holsey, his daughter Sonya Rene Holsey (1990), and his infant son, Joseph Lloyd Holsey. Their spirits undoubtedly find solace in the loving reunion beyond this realm.

A private memorial gathering, organized by the family, will be held at a date and time to be determined. This intimate gathering will serve as a celebration of William's life, bringing together those who loved him dearly.

In reflecting upon William Larry Holsey's life, we find inspiration to live fully, embrace nature's beauty, cherish family bonds, and cast our dreams like fishing lines into the vast ocean of possibilities. May his memory guide us towards a life lived with purpose and appreciation for the simplicity of the world around us.
