JOLIET, IL - During the summer of 2018, Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton and City Manager David Hales became aware of allegations of financial improprieties involving Joliet Master Patrol Officer Brian Nagra. Last week, the Kendall County State's Attorney's Office in Yorkville filed five criminal charges against Nagra: three counts of official misconduct and two counts of theft of between $10,000 and $100,000.

According to information obtained by Joliet Patch as the result of a Freedom of Information Act request, the city of Joliet recently paid Nagra a grand total of $26,102 for cashing out his unused vacation, his sick leave and comp time banks.

According to the breakdown, Nagra retired on July 5 from the city of Joliet, after 20 years of service. At the time of his departure, Nagra had 173 hours of vacation on the books that he cashed out for $9,044. He had about 75 hours of comp time that he cashed out for $3,894. Third, he was able to cash out 40 percent of 630 hours of unused sick time, for another $13,164.

In mid-June, Patch reported that Brian Nagra had been paid $52,000 so far in 2019 from the city of Joliet while appealing his January termination from the police department. Given that Nagra remained on the city's payroll until July 5, he would have collected at least $60,000 in salary this year for not working as a patrol officer.

In years past, Nagra had been assigned to the city's east side.
