JOLIET, IL —One Joliet Coalition (OJC) announced it will host a Launch and Community Fun Day picnic on Saturday, August 14. The event is a chance for the organization to introduce itself to the area and an opportunity for residents to celebrate before the beginning of the school year, OJC said.

The free gathering will take place between noon and 4 p.m. at Varnado Park, located at the corner of McDonough Street and Water Street. The event will feature free food, music, games, kickball and free school supplies, and OJC will be registering residents to vote.

OJC also is inviting other organizations to the event, and encouraging them to bring pop-ups, tables and information about their organization. OJC said the organizations also should be "ready to form your kickball team!" Residents also are invited to bring lawn chairs to the gathering.
