Open Alcohol, No License, Felony DUI Arrest In Joliet: Police

Joliet police say officers stopped the Chrysler Town and Country near Landau Avenue and Ohio Street for improper lane usage.

JOLIET, IL — A 33-year-old man from Joliet who Joliet police say does not have a driver's license, chose not to use his seatbelt and had open alcoholic beverages in his car now faces felony DUI charges following his arrest over the weekend.

Joliet police say Eliut Rodriguez was hauled off to the downtown police station and later let go on a Notice to Appear on charges of DUI and aggravated DUI.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following sequence of events led to the arrest on the city's east side on Saturday.

  • At 11:55 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler Town and Country near Landau Avenue and Ohio Street for improper lane usage. Rodriguez was the driver. While speaking to police, Rodriguez showed behaviors consistent with alcohol impairment.
  • Rodriguez performed field sobriety tests and was then placed into custody without incident. Officers found an open container of alcohol in Rodriguez’s vehicle, and he did not possess a driver’s license.
  • Rodriguez was also cited for Improper Lane Usage, Illegal Transportation of Open Alcohol by Driver, No Valid Driver’s License, and Failure to Use Seatbelt. The vehicle was towed from the scene, Joliet police arrest logs show.
