Ortiz Women Attack Joliet Police, Get Low Bail
Geraldina Ortiz and Maria Ortiz were taken to the jail on July 4th.

JOLIET, IL - On Independence Day, several Joliet Police officers found themselves being attacked by two women who live in the 400 block of Landau Avenue during a disturbance call, court records show. As a result, Geraldina Ortiz and Maria Ortiz now find themselves as criminal co-defendants. The women are charged with three counts of aggravated battery. One of the charges states that Geraldina Ortiz struck one of the male Joliet Police officers "about the head." Next, Geraldina Ortiz struck one of the female Joliet Police officers "about the head."
Lastly, Maria Ortiz is accused of striking another male officer from the Joliet Police Department "about the head with a cell phone."

Both Ortiz women live in the 400 block of Landau Avenue. Maria Ortiz spent three days in the county jail before coming up with the necessary 10 percent bond. She is a familiar face at the Will County jail having been incarcerated in 2007, 2009 and 2011 as well.

Court records indicate that both women have hired private attorneys as their defense counsel. Geraldina Ortiz has retained the services of Chuck Bretz. Maria Ortiz has hired downtown Joliet lawyer Cosmo Tedone.
Court records indicate that Will County Judge Art Smigielski set bail for both women at $25,000.
