JOLIET, IL — Joliet Police Sgt. Tizoc Landeros announced that a 16-year-old boy was captured and delivered to the River Valley Justice Center to face charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated discharge of a gun and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Landeros said it's because of an overnight shooting that happened Sunday around 1:30 a.m.
He said the officers were in the vicinity of Gardner Street and Doris Avenue and heard several loud pops, which were gunshots. The officers then saw two males running northbound on Sherman Street. One of the officers in pursuit noticed one of them carrying a handgun in his hand while running. The officers issued commands for him to drop the handgun, which he eventually complied with. He was subsequently taken into custody in the 900 block of Sherman Street, where the loaded handgun was recovered.
