Forest Preserve police say she died from a single gunshot wound, with evidence indicating she used the weapon herself, and emphasize that the death is not considered suspicious while reminding the community of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Catalytic Converter Heist At Troy School District: Criminal Charges Filed Against These 2 Men (patch.com) — Joliet readers are learning that two men from Indianapolis and Chicago now face six felony charges in the massive catalytic converter theft that sidelined 30 Troy School District buses in February 2025. Investigators with the Tri-County Auto Theft unit and Joliet Police linked the overnight heist to a dark SUV, and prosecutors plan to seek their detention once they are caught.
   

3. 12 People Running For Joliet Mayor, City Council So Far In Spring 2027 Elections: Here's Who They Are (patch.com) — Joliet residents can already see a crowded field forming for the spring 2027 mayoral and City Council races, even as Mayor Terry D'Arcy has yet to pull petitions for a second term. Twelve candidates, including several incumbents and a former city manager, have stepped forward so far, with District 4 Councilman Cesar Cardenas opting to seek re-election rather than run for mayor.
   

4. Joliet Park Board approves $6.6 million sale of Splash Station, says it will use money to 'expand services' (shawlocal.com) — Joliet's Park Board has approved selling the long-closed Splash Station Waterpark for $6.6 million, with plans to reinvest the money into new or expanded recreational services, possibly water-related. The sale to industrial developer Prologis continues Route 6's shift toward warehousing, while park officials promise to unveil detailed plans for the proceeds soon.
   

5. Revolutionary War patriot John Cook honored with monument at Joliet's Oakwood Cemetery (dailyherald.com) — A new monument at Joliet's Oakwood Cemetery now honors Revolutionary War patriot John Cook, connecting national history directly to Joliet. Local SAR and DAR chapters, city and township leaders, veterans, students, and Joliet Central JROTC joined for a dedication that organizers hope will inspire future generations to explore the city's Revolutionary-era roots.
