Paul & Mike's Transmissions Will Get Customers' Groceries
Amid the new coronavirus, a Joliet auto repair shop has offered to get groceries for any customer whose only vehicle is in their shop.
JOLIET, IL — Paul & Mike's Transmissions has been on Joliet's Collins Street since 1955 and this full-service automotive repair shop is doing things it's never done before. Since the new coronavirus outbreak, Paul & Mike's is offering to make a grocery run for customers who would be unable to get to the store while their only vehicle is under repair.
On Monday, co-owner George Mormann told Joliet Patch that his sister ran to the grocery store last week to pick up several items for an elderly customer who lives in nearby Lockport.
The woman's car was being serviced, and her cupboard of groceries was running bare.

George Mormann and his sister Kaleena Mormann, the co-owners of Paul & Mike's, rose to the challenge. Kaleena Mormann took the list of grocery items and went to the store for the woman while her vehicle underwent repairs at their business.
George Mormann wants everyone to know that he and his sister are willing to make additional grocery store runs for other customers who would find themselves without a vehicle if their only car needs to be repaired.

Their Joliet service shop is at 232 Collins St., at the corner of Benton Street.
Paul & Mike's is a full-service auto repair shop. The business repairs engines, suspensions, brakes and specializes in rebuilding transmissions.
And, if the need arises, Paul & Mike's will even run out and pick up your groceries.
"I'm just trying to find ways to accommodate people," George Mormann told Joliet Patch during Monday's interview. "It's not even to increase business."
For some, especially the elderly, "it's nerve-wracking for them going out for auto repairs," he said.
Additionally, George Mormann wants everyone to know that cleanliness and sanitation is Paul & Mike's top priority for walk-in customers.
"Every hour on the hour we're doing disinfecting of our door knobs and door handles, steering wheels," he said.
How has Paul & Mike's stayed in business the past 65 years on Joliet's east side?
"The business is word of mouth," George Mormann told Joliet Patch. "We do have second and third-generation customers."
Paul & Mike's stays open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The Joliet repair shop is closed Sundays. The business phone is 815-727-2413.
Last week, Joliet Patch published an article urging all local businesses to fill out an online form on whether they are staying open, hours of operation and any other important details they would like customers to know during the coronavirus outbreak.
The owners of Paul & Mike's Transmissions were one of the first Joliet businesses to fill out the simple online form. In doing so, they alerted Patch that they're even willing to pick up a customer's groceries, if necessary.
