Photos & Review: Styx at the Rialto Square Theatre

Styx came back to town for a show at Joliet's Rialto Square Theatre.

Days following a sold out show at Waukegan’s Genesee Theatre, Styx sailed into Joliet for another sold out, mid-week rock show at the Rialto Square Theatre last week.

Styx is no stranger to the Rialto after stopping there a number of times over the years.

In fact, keyboardist and vocalist Lawrence Gowan made it a point throughout the evening to bring up how much the band likes returning to the theatre.

This particular show’s setlist featured popular radio anthems mixed in with a few pieces off Styx’s latest album, The Mission.

The Mission was released in June of 2017 and is the group’s 16th studio album, and their first album in 14 years.

Styx does an excellent job jumping between their deep cuts and their new tracks. Transitions were smooth without any awkward pauses or hesitations and the new music seemed well-received by fans in attendance.

On stage, the group was on top of their game acting energetic and genuinely enthusiastic throughout the show. Vocals were strong and sound was consistent.

The show itself was separated into two sets spanning two and a half hours. The setlist was as follows:

Part 1:

Overture

Gone, Gone, Gone

Blue Collar Man

Grand Illusion

Fooling Yourself

Lady

Radio Silence

Lorelei

Man in the Wilderness

Light Up

The Outpost

Rockin’ the Paradise

(Intermission)

Part 2:

Miss America

Lights

Crystal Ball

Hundred Million Miles from Home

Trouble at the Big Show

Too Much Time on my Hands

Khedive (piano solo)

Yellow Brick Road (cover/sing-along)

Bohemian Rhapsody (cover/sing-along)

Come Sail Away

Encore:

Mr. Roboto

Renegade

Although Styx doesn’t have any more shows planned for the immediate Chicagoland area, they’ll be in Champaign, IL at the end of March.
