Riverwalk Homes Standoff With Joliet Police Led To His Arrest: Cops
As Joliet police arrived, a man was yelling and threatening to shoot a female, authorities say.

JOLIET, IL — If you were wondering why Joliet police had blocked off several blocks along Broadway Street on Thursday morning, the incident concerned the arrest of 29-year-old Riverwalk Homes resident Lamaris George, who created a standoff situation with the Joliet police SWAT team, authorities announced.
George was later taken away in handcuffs and brought to the Will County Jail, his fourth time in the jail since 2019.
George's domestic disturbance began around 3:15 a.m., according to his arrest report. As officers responded to the public housing project on the city's near west side, a man was yelling and threatening to shoot a female, Joliet police noted.

According to Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English:
- Officers announced themselves at the door and gave commands for the tenants to exit the apartment. The occupants of the apartment initially ignored the commands.
- Officers believed one of the tenants may be armed with a dangerous weapon, so a perimeter was established.
- The Joliet Police Department Special Operations Squad and Crisis Negotiator Team were called out. A short time later, a woman exited the apartment, and she indicated there was no disturbance taking place.
- Negotiators made contact with George and two more men inside the apartment, and everyone came out without any more problems.
- Officers searched the apartment and found no dangerous weapons.
- However, George was wanted on an active Will County warrant for missing court on a previous resisting/obstructing a peace officer charge. As a result, George was placed into custody and now he remains in county custody.
