Route 66 Raceway’s Most Explosive Night of Drag Racing July 14
UNLEASH THE HEAT, LIGHT UP THE NIGHT AT THE FOUR SEASONS HEATING, AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING BURNDOWN AT SUNDOWN!

The Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Burndown at Sundown will return for the most explosive night of drag racing at Route 66 Raceway on a new date: Saturday, July 14. As the sun goes down, the track heats up as at the World’s Premier Drag Racing Facility. A fire-breathing show consisting of jet-propelled cars rocketing to speeds nearing 300 miles per hour. Burndown at Sundown coincides with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series exhibition, where more than 500 cars will spring into action during three full days of racing.
New In 2018
The Burndown at Sundown is turning up the heat in 2018 with some fiery additions. First off, a new and exciting component will be the United States Freestyle Motocross Team (USFMX). High above the race rack will be the high-energy aerial antics of Team USFMX as they perform heart pounding, death defying tricks, such as the "Kiss of Death.”

Additionally, on Monday, July 9, Q-ROCK’s very own radio personality “Freak” will host a wing contest at his restaurant, Top Fuel Saloon, at 5:00 pm. Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap, which was voted “Top Chicken Wing Spot in the US” by the Today Show, will supply the mouthwatering wings for the contest. Racing fans of all ages are invited to attend the explosive event!
Contestants include: Freak himself, TJ Zizzo (NHRA Drag Racer), Justin Schriefer (NHRA Drag Racer), Jeff Isom (Joliet Slammers Head Coach), Jerry McDowell (Joliet Slammers Assistant Coach), Ridge Hoopii-Hasalm (Slammers Second Baseman), Skylar Janisse (Slammers Pitcher), Mike Guglielmucci (WJOL) and Brandon Freis (Junior Dragster). Top Fuel Saloon is located at 275 S Hickory St, Braidwood, Illinois.

On Saturday, July 14, Burndown at Sundown will turn up the heat again as Route 66 Raceway partners with Jake Melnick’s XXX Hot Sauce tasting challenge. Fans can experience the heat themselves with fire-themed food and drinks including an official courtesy of the infamous Chicago-based restaurant.
Be sure to beat the summer heat at the Water Box bar and beer garden and rock out with live entertainment provided by The Band, Gallery. Cap off the evening with a firework finale as it’s a night that will surely bring fire to life!
And for the young race fans, Route 66 Raceway Kids can enjoy the fun with carnival games, face painting, and bounce house and more! Fans can also walk down ‘Jet Alley,” where all Jet Cars and Wheelstanders will be parking for the day. A great chance to see a Jet Car up close.

Jet Truck – Dave Modder’s Dragon’s Fyre Jet Truck is a 1940 Ford pick-up truck powered by a General Electric J-85 after-burning turbo jet engine. The Dragon's Fyre Jet Truck is the only one of its kind.
Jet Funny Car - Barry Richter's Hypersonic Jet Funny Car is propelled by a fire-breathing jet engine and can reach speeds up to 280 miles per hour in a quarter-mile!
Jet Dragsters – A variety of jet dragsters will present a spectacle on the quarter-mile as they rocket to speeds approaching 300 mph. The dragsters include:
- Scott Holdridge’s Fifty Cal
- Danny Sullivan’s Chicago Rush
- Al Zukauskas’s Hot Blade
Wheel Stander – Rick Ream Detailers Hot Rod Fire Truck Wheel Stander is a 1950 Bullet Nose Studebaker fire truck which can run more than 1800 feet with its front end in the air.
And when the sun drops below the grandstands, all exhibition content will be flanked with two flame-shooting pyrotechnic towers!
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (LODRS) is the premier Sportsman racing program in motorsports: It is where the future stars of NHRA Drag Racing develop their skills. The three-day event at Route 66 Raceway will be held July 13-15 and is expected to showcase upwards of 500 vehicles from 10 classes including: Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman. With hundreds of cars in 10 different classes, LODRS truly has something for everyone.
About Top Alcohol Dragster & Funny Car
As a part of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Top Alcohol Dragsters and Top Alcohol Funny Cars will be on display. Top Alcohol Dragsters use supercharged, nitro-burning engines, supercharged methanol-burning engines or an injected nitromethane combination that can reach speeds of 285 mph. The injected nitro cars do not use a transmission, and the supercharged cars have three forward speeds that launch them down the quarter-mile in 5.1 seconds.
Similar in physical appearance to their nitro-burning Funny Car counterparts, Top Alcohol Funny Cars are restricted to the use of methanol fuel and have a three-speed transmission that allow for the vehicles to reach speeds of 270 mph. Top Alcohol Funny Cars are capable of completing a quarter mile in 5.3 seconds.

Last but not least, fans will witness 200 mph door slammers in Top Sportsman class as well as a plethora of wheel standing action and stock and super stockers as part the of NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition.
The spectacle of fire and explosion on Saturday, July 14 will begin at 5 p.m. although racing will take place throughout the entire day. Tickets for the Four Seasons Heating, Air Conditioning and Plumbing Burndown at Sundown are only $20, while kids 12 and younger are admitted for $5.
