Salary For Joliet's New City Manager From Chicago Revealed

Beth Beatty, who has worked for the past four mayors of Chicago, one of the world's largest cities, will become Joliet's new city manager.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet City Council will meet next Tuesday, Nov. 7, to vote on the proposed compensation package for Beth Beatty, who has agreed to become Joliet's new permanent city manager under first-term Mayor Terry D'Arcy.

Beatty has worked for more than 20 years at one of the largest cities in the world, Chicago. Under Lori Lightfoot, Beatty was promoted to one of Chicago's deputy mayors.

Next week, Joliet's Council will vote on paying Beatty a salary of $230,000, plus give her $12,500 in relocation expenses to leave Chicago and move to Joliet, the third-largest city in Illinois.

Beatty is also in line to receive $250 per month, which $3,000 per year, as a vehicle allowance as part of her duties of overseeing all of Joliet's full-time employees at City Hall.

Since the summer, Rod Tonelli has filled in as the interim city manager for Joliet. He was one of the four finalists for the position, but the Joliet Council opted not to offer him the position. Since 2021, Jim Capparelli, a lawyer previously in private practice in Joliet at the Castle Law firm, served as the city manager. Capparelli resigned on the verge of his contract expiring in July.
