Scissors Incident At Riverwalk Homes Lands Woman Back In Jail: Joliet Police
Officers recovered a glass pipe used for smoking drugs while searching Tyria Bishop, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department arrested a 24-year-old woman last week at the Riverwalk Homes property on North Broadway Street in connection with a scissors incident and allegations that she tried to attack the responding police officers.
Joliet police said that Tyria Bishop was taken to the Will County Jail for the third time since 2022, this time for two charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated assault, two counts of resisting a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing justice and for having an outstanding Will County arrest warrant.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 9:41 p.m. July 2, officers responded to the parking lot of Riverwalk Homes at 366 N. Broadway St. for a disturbance. There, police say Bishop was holding a pair of scissors in her hand.

Bishop claimed to have been attacked by another woman, but refused to answer further questions and then threw the scissors at an officer, nearly striking them, the arrest report said.
When Joliet police tried to take Bishop into custody, she began to struggle, and she punched an officer in the chest, English said.

According to police, Bishop had to be taken to the ground as she continued striking officers. Officers were successful in handcuffing Bishop, who pinched an officer who was placing her into a squad car, English said. He said Bishop later spit on an officer while being transported to the Joliet Police Department.
Eventually, the officers recovered a glass pipe used for smoking drugs while searching Bishop, the agency noted. Bishop held an active Will County warrant for failing to appear in court on previous theft charges.
