Joliet Township Shooting Victim Identified As Plainfield Man, 19

JOLIET TOWNSHIP, IL — A 19-year-old man who was fatally shot Wednesday night has been identified as Jayden Velazquez-Garcia of Plainfield.

Velazquez-Garcia was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m. Wednesday at Ascension Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

Sheriff's officials said deputies responded around 3:45 p.m. after Velazquez-Garcia was shot while sitting in a vehicle near Luana Road and Girard Boulevard. He drove his vehicle down the street before getting out of it in the 100 block of Girard, where deputies found him lying in the road.

Witnesses saw a suspect or suspects running west on Luana after the shooting, police said.
