Shots Fired At Lois Place? No, It Was All A Lie: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — A 22-year-old Joliet resident who kept calling Joliet police claiming that a shooting was taking place at the Lois Place apartment complex was taken away in handcuffs on charges of disorderly conduct, according to arrest reports.

Joliet police said Lionel Williams was arrested and released on a notice to appear in court for disorderly conduct.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the incident leading to the arrest on the city's west side happened Tuesday night, which was Oct. 3.

According to English, the following events unfolded around 11:05 p.m., as officers were called to the 900 block of Lois Place for a report of shots fired.

  • Officers learned that a male caller had called 911 twice, indicating that someone was firing a gun at this location. Officers arrived and found no evidence of a shooting.
  • Officers located Williams near Black Road and Lois Place and determined that Williams had been the caller and confirmed that he had no further information in reference to a shooting.
  • Williams was warned to not call 911 unless for emergency purposes only and the officers resumed patrol.
  • A short time later, Williams had called the Joliet Police Department non-emergency line on three separate occasions and hung up each time. Williams was located in the 2000 block of Glenwood Avenue and placed into custody without incident.
