Sleeping Victim Tased, Choked With Shoelace In Downtown: Police

On Sunday night, Joliet police responded to an apartment in the 0-50 block of East Cass Street for a domestic disturbance.

JOLIET, IL — A 34-year-old man who lives in downtown Joliet was taken to the Will County Jail on Sunday night after Joliet police say he tried to choke another man. Officers arrested Zachary Cortright on charges of aggravated domestic battery.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to Sunday night's arrest of Cortright:

At 9:18 p.m., officers were sent to an apartment in the 0-50 block of East Cass Street for a domestic disturbance. Officers learned that Cortright tased a man in the chest multiple times while the victim slept on a couch. Police said Cortright then choked the victim with a shoelace and punched the victim in the face.

Cortright was taken into custody without incident. Cortright's victim was taken by Joliet Fire Department ambulance to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.
