Splash Station May Not Open This Summer
Joliet's Park District showed up requesting $120,000 from Joliet's City Council on Tuesday.

JOLIET, IL — It's been one gloomy event after another lately for the Joliet Park District at Inwood. This month, the park district's 58-percent property tax increase proposal was rejected by the voters by a margin of 72 percent to 28 percent, a humiliating defeat. On Tuesday night, Joliet Park District Executive Director Tom Carstens urged the Joliet City Council to provide a city of Joliet taxpayer subsidy of $120,000.
The park district asked for the city of Joliet's financial help to ensure that the Joliet Splash Station Waterpark off Route 6 can stay open for another summer.
Although City Hall's administration recommended the resolution be approved, the agenda proposal did not garner any support from the council, so it didn't even come up for a vote.

Veteran City Councilwoman Jan Quillman was outspoken about the plan. She reminded everyone at the meeting that the Splash Station Waterpark has been losing money for many years.
