Stabbing On Hickory Street Leads To Arrest At Muffler Shop: Police
Joliet police say they located Jinner Mendez-Macellar at his place of employment at Vasquez Mufflers.

JOLIET, IL — A 29-year-old Crest Hill man, Jinner Mendez-Macellar, is now behind bars at the Will County Jail after Joliet police say he plunged a knife into the chest of a 27-year-old man in the 700 block of Hickory Street over the weekend.
The stabbing happened Saturday morning. Joliet police say the victim was taken to St. Joe's hospital, where he is recovering in stable condition. As for Mendez, he's being charged with aggravated battery, domestic battery and endangering the life of a child.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events happened:

- At 8:19 a.m., officers were sent to an apartment in the 700 block of North Hickory Street for a report of a stabbing. Officers found a 27-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest and immediately began providing medical assistance until the arrival of Joliet Fire Department paramedics.
- Earlier, police said Mendez-Macellar had arrived at the apartment to drop off his 3-year-old son. Officials said Mendez-Macellar grew angry and began striking a woman at the apartment multiple times. The 27-year-old roommate of the victim tried to intervene when Mendez-Macellar grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the chest, according to police.
- Mendez-Macellar drove off before Joliet police arrived.
- An 11-year-old girl was also present at the time of the attack.
- A short time later, Joliet police found Mendez-Macellar at his place of employment at Vasquez Mufflers, 350 Ward Ave., and he was arrested.
