JOLIET, IL — A 38-year-old Joliet man who previously served a seven-year sentence to the Illinois Department of Corrections now finds himself back in the Will County Jail after Joliet police arrested Reginald Holloway at the Star Inn Motel in the 2200 block of West Jefferson Street.

Following this past weekend's arrest, the Will County State's Attorney's Office has charged Holloway with aggravated battery and four domestic battery crimes.

According to the prosecution's petition to deny pretrial release, Joliet police responded to the Star Inn on Friday for a domestic disturbance and when they encountered Holloway, he "appeared to be heavily intoxicated and agitated," prosecutors advised. "Officers observed the defendant to have a torn shirt and a cut on his left knuckle."

Holloway told Joliet police he was meeting a woman he knew at the motel when an argument ensued. He claimed he tried leave, but she held him back and the argument was strictly verbal, nothing physical occurred. Joliet police then interviewed the woman, and she had a visible bump on her forehead. She also appeared intoxicated but informed the officers that the argument turned physical and that Holloway had punched her, court files show.

Joliet police obtained video surveillance from the Star Inn Motel property, and it showed the woman and Holloway in the parking lot and the woman got into Holloway's car to prevent him from leaving. "The defendant is seen grabbing (her) and pushing her out of the vehicle. The parties continue to argue when the defendant presses (her) against the wall and punches her several times," prosecutors noted.

The woman then took a garbage can and threw it at Holloway, and he responded by pushing her and punching her once more, court documents state. "There is 25 minutes of surveillance footage where the defendant continues to punch and grab (her) in the parking lot before officers arrive."

As for Holloway's past, he pleaded guilty in April 2019 to being an armed habitual criminal as well as aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, drawing a seven-year sentence at the Will County Courthouse. "At the time of this offense, on June 12, 2026, the defendant was on this mandatory supervised release," prosecutors pointed out. "Not only does this show that the defendant is incapable of following court orders ... but the charges he plead guilty to show he is known to possess firearms. The defendant's criminal history also displays violent behavior for which many sentences to the Illinois Department of Corrections have been imposed."
