Stolen Car Crashes, 2 Arrested By Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL - A 20-year-old Joliet man faces more trouble with Will County's criminal justice system after Joliet Police say theh arrested him Wednesday with a stolen car. When police tried to pull over Marquise Godfrey, he hit the gas and thought he successfully evaded the police, reports show. But he didn't.
As a result, Godfrey was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer and obstructing a peace officer.
But that's just the beginning of Godfrey's troubles with Joliet Police. It gets worse.

Godfrey also had outstanding arrest warrants out for previous crimes such as aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, domestic battery and failure to appear in court warrants related to multiple traffic offenses.
According to Joliet Police, the following events led up to the arrest of Godfrey and another young man:

Late Wednesday morning, officers in one Joliet's patrol cars saw a maroon Chevrolet Impala heading north in the 500 block of Joliet Street and determined it was stolen, reports show.
The squad car's sirens and flashing blue and red lights were activated, but Godfrey chose to ignore the police in hopes of getting away, reports indicate.
"The pursuit was terminated due to the area and conditions. A coordinated search for the suspect vehicle by several officers began. The vehicle was subsequently located a short time later crashed in the 500 (block) of Ohio Street," police said.
Although the stolen car was abandoned, it wasn't long before the Joliet Police nabbed their culprits, Godfrey and 21-year-old Dandre Young, also of Joliet, in the 500 block of Clay Street, police said.
Young was arrested and later released on a $1,500 I-bond. He was charged with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and obstructing a police officer.
Jail logs indicate the Godfrey remains in Will County lockup without bail.
Godfrey lives in the 200 block of Bartleson Street.
