After last year’s win at Route 66 Raceway "Street Outlaws" driver Ryan Martin intends to up his game against serious challenger Lizzy Musi Friday. Tied for the lead at a pivotal mid-season point, Martin and Musi face off street racing to the world-renowned drag strip in Joliet this weekend.

"It's going to decide who's going to be the points leader," Martin said. "Watch 32 of the baddest cars in the country on big tires try to battle it out and see who comes out on top."

Fans of the Discovery Channel's hit TV show Street Outlaws can participate in filming episodes Friday and Saturday, according to Route 66 Raceway President Scott Paddock. This is the show's fifth race this season.

“Since Street Outlaws premiered on the Discovery Channel in 2013, the franchise has been wildly successful and continues to attract a massive television following," Paddock said. "We are excited to host the Street Outlaws cast, including the addition of Big Chief, at Route 66 Raceway for another filming of what promises to be an action packed episode.”

The smooth track at Route 66 Raceway is among the reasons why many top-tier racers love coming to Joliet. Agreeing this track is like the drag racing's Taj Mahal, Martin said this is his third time at this track, and "every time it's been a great experience."

"It's one of the nicest places we get to race," Martin said.

While drivers experience the smooth track surface, the public will feel the roaring thrill of the street racing due to Route 66 Raceway's design and acoustics. The weather this weekend promises to be the "best weather so far" for filming this season, Martin said.

Martin, famous for his Fireball Camero, said that he reviewed the data from last year's win, and upped his game to challenge Musi. Not revealing his technical secrets, Martin said his improvements are "some tire stuff," noting that he has tried every tire on the market.

"If I can do this weekend what I did in testing … we're going to be in good shape," Martin said.
