JOLIET, IL — On Sunday morning, Feb. 16, the quick thinking of Joliet resident Steve Blotnick, his two teenage daughters and one of their friends saved the lives of two elderly residents whose garage just started on fire in the 600 block of Tana Lane.

Steve Blotnick pulled over and confirmed that the girls were right — somebody's house was on fire. Blotnick was able to get the elderly couple out safely while the girls called 911, prompting several Joliet fire engines to arrive on the scene to extinguish the blaze.

At Tuesday night's Joliet City Council meeting, Fire Chief Greg Blaskey presented the Joliet Fire Department's Lifesaving Award to Annie Tibbott, Claire Blotnik, Ellie Blotnik, and Steve Blotnik.
