These 4 Joliet Businesses Sold Liquor To Minors: State Police

Illinois State Police surveyed two dozen local businesses Wednesday night. It was bad news for four.

JOLIET, IL - Last summer, Highland Liquors on Joliet's east side made news for selling a winning $2 million Powerball lottery ticket at its long-time liquor store on East Cass Street. On Thursday, Highland Liquors made the news again. This time, for something bad. The Illinois State Police issued a press release announcing that Highland Liquors was one of four Joliet businesses that sold alcohol to someone under the age of 21 on Wednesday. State Police agents conducted an alcohol compliance check at two dozen Joliet and Crest Hill establishments on Wednesday evening.

"The purpose of these ... details is to determine which businesses may be selling alcoholic beverages to minors," the Illinois State Police press release stated.

There were 24 liquor establishments inspected on Wednesday night. Twenty of these businesses did not sell liquor to the minors who were working with the Illinois State Police as part of the surveillance check.
